PRERANA: An experiential learning program

Learning which is beyond the confines of conventional education and leads on the path of exploration helps students to gain enriching experiences. Come and immerse yourself in this journey of exploring history and tradition innovatively.

A historic institution since 1888 situated in Vadnagar, a small town in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, India is all ready to welcome students and take them on a journey of remarkable transformation.

An initiative started by the Ministry of Education, Government of India where participants can gain meaningful, unique, inspiring experiences to empower leadership qualities in them.

The institution- Prerana School offers students to get experience and knowledge about history and traditions with innovation, technology, and hands-on activities in their one-week-long residential program. The program has nine themes that engage participants in activity-based fun learning.



The nine themes across eight classrooms:-

  1. Swabhiman and Vinay

  2. Shaurya and Sahas

  3. Parishram and Samarpan

  4. Karuna and Seva

  5. Vividhta and Ekta

  6. Satyanishtha and Shuchita

  7. Navachar and Jigyasa

  8. Shraddha and Vishwas

  9. Swatantrata and Kartavya

The visits to archeological and historical sites of Vadnagar along with many other activities through various modes of learning will be a part of this whole program. The program will be led under the expert guidance of selected mentors. Keeping the well-defined learning objectives in mind, the program includes various activities like:

  1. Watching films

  2. Immersing in storytelling

  3. Participating, and learning about regional games

  4. Crafting working radio models

  5. Exposure to computer design skills

  6. Observing water samples

  7. Delving into cutting-edge technological advancements like 3D printing, drones

  8. Engaging field trips


Now let's talk about who can participate.

Students of grades IXTH  to XIITH from schools of all districts of different states and UTs can register for the program on the Prerana Portal of the Ministry of Education. Students can access all the necessary information from the portal.

  • 20 students will be selected in every batch of PRERANA from 10 different districts.

  • Two students (one girl and one boy) and two as backup will be selected from each district.

  • Students need to fill in details of District and Urban/ Rural (on Portal) based on the Location of the School.

  • Schools having grades IXTH  to XIITH of every district will organize ‘Prerna Utsav’.

  • Screening of film on the PRERANA program and school will orient students about ‘Prerna   Utsav’ during the organization of 'Prerna Utsav’

  • Students will display their talent through activities like writing essays, poems, stories, songs on a given topic, drawing, etc. (One activity for each student).


Process of selection

Selection will be done on three levels.

First level

  • Organising ‘Prerna Utsav’ at the school level of each district. 2 best students (1 girl and 1 boy) will be selected.

Second level

  • Organisation of ‘Prerna Utsav’ at the district level in JNV.

  • Students selected at the school level will have to write on given topics.

  • Selection of 30 students (15 girls and 15 boys) will be done based on their personality assessment and suitability of the program.

Third level

  • Personal interview of selected students in JNV.

  • Finally, 2 students and 2 backup students will be selected from each district.

Selected students will be notified by email of the given details of the school/ students.

So, participate in the program and embark on the journey filled with enthusiasm, learning, and gaining experiences through various fun activities and excursions while fostering the respect of India's immense unity and diversity, as well as the ethos of "Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam."
