Lessons to Learn: From the Life of Robin Sharma

Updated: Apr 2

Some books help you reflect and think about yourself and become helpful in improving yourself.

“Give out what you most want to come back”- Robin Sharma

This is a quote from a famous book by Robin Sharma “The Greatness Guide”. This book is all about lessons he shared from his own experiences. The book has 101 lessons and some amazing tips to get inspired from and follow in our daily lives. This book is the one that helped me do this. Sharing some of the lessons from the book got me inspired and made me think about how I can implement them in my own life.

Ø  Seize the opportunity:- He talked about how it is important to “run towards our fears” and to seize those “ Cubic centimeters of chance”. Each day, life sends us little windows of opportunity. It is on us how we respond to these windows of opportunity which in turn decides our destiny.

Ø  Nothing fails like success:- Another lesson that I find accurate and makes sense is that nothing fails like success. Though he made this statement concerning an organization when if we look deeper into it this applies in one’s life too. The more successful we become the more sloppy we get. We stop doing hard work, stop innovating, etc. So it is of utter importance that the more successful we become, the more humble and devoted we need to be. The more committed to efficiency and relentless improvement you need to be. Because the moment we stop doing the very things, the very moment we begin to slide down.

Ø  Be a rockstar at work:- This is the point that I believe is very important to keep repeating to ourselves. Work gives meaning to our lives. It influences our self-worth and makes us see where we stand in life. Being great at what you do isn’t just something you do for the organization but also a gift you give to yourself. No matter what work you do, make sure you do it with passion and so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a person who did his job well.' So be a rockstar at work. Own your stage and play your heart out. Give the best performance of your life and get your audience to cheer for you.

Ø  Learn to say no:- This is the lesson to which most of us don’t give importance. It is not necessary to say yes to everything and anything you are asked to do. Learn to say no to things you feel are not important to you. Because every time you say yes to something unimportant, you say no to something important. Know your priorities, your goals, and what is important to you, and say no to everything else. Surely many might get upset but you need to decide if you want to live according to the approval of others or aligned with your truths and dreams.

Ø  See-through the eyes of the understanding:- This lesson made me question that how many times I see someone through the eyes of understanding. Do I keep aside my anger, limitation, and fear aside while listening to another person? This is a bitter fact that so many people look for the worst in others. They don’t want to understand the other person’s situation because of their own biases.  Instead, try to look for what’s best within them, and get to the truth instead of making calls without understanding. Communicate with your people, grow with them, and help each other to reach your dreams.

Ø  The boomerang effect: Have you ever used a boomerang? How when we throw it, it comes back to us. The same happens in our lives. The very thing we most want to see more in our lives is the very thing we need to give away. Want more love, be the one who gives the most love. Want more credit for all you do and who you are? Be the one who gives more credit to others. Want more loyalty? Be the most loyal person you know. And then see what happens. Just give you what you most want to come back. Life has beautiful things in store for you.
